Raymond Lee "Chick" Wegener was born March 2, 1927, to Edward and Rose (Barney) Wegener in Minco. He graduated from Minco High School in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the Navy, where he served in the Philippine Islands. After returning, he attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Agriculture Economics. While at OSU he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, Alpha Zeta Honor Society and Blue Key. He was a avid OSU fan and season ticket holder for over 40 years. After his father passed away in 1951 and his brother Clenard went to war, he was left to raise approximately 40,000 turkeys. He married Peggy Jolly on March 30, 1951 and they moved to the farm five miles northwest of town and began dairying while raising their three children, Debbie, Denise and Rodney. Raymond was involved in the dairy business for 45 years. He and his family enjoyed showing dairy cattle for many years. He retired and moved into Minco in 1991. Raymond and Peggy were WKY's Farmer-Rancher of the Month in May 1970.
Most importantly, he accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church, Minco where he served as a deacon for many years and taught a Sunday School men's class for 35 years.
Raymond went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the age of 87 years only one block from where he was born.
