Alice W. (Webster) Cassady Canterbury

CHICOPEE - Alice W. (Webster) Canterbury, 93, of Memorial Ave., Chicopee, died Friday at Heritage Hall nursing home in Agawam. Born in Chicopee on August 16, 1909, she was a lifelong resident. She was a communicant of Christ Community Church. She was a life member of the Cabot Chapter #95 and also belonged to the Rebekah Lodge Odd fellows #126 in Springfield and the order of Eastern Star of Massachusetts. She was also an avid golfer. Alice worked as a bookkeeper for the Taylor Bramley Co. for many years before retiring around 1970. She is predeceased by her husband, Julian Cassady, who died in 1971 and also by her other husband, Chester Canterbury, who passed away in 1998. She leaves her sister, Frances Metcalf of Hampden; 4 step-sons Philip and his wife Lynn Canterbury of Colombia Maryland, David Canterbury of Lee, MA; Philip and his wife Kathie Cassady of Snoqualmie, Washington, and David and his wife Patricia Cassady of Bridgewater, MA; 3 step-daughters, Susan Abusharkh of Tyngsboro MA, Carol Brannan of Sitka, Alaska and Beverly Cassady of Chicopee ; 5 grand-stepchildren; and a niece Barbara Manning of Windsor Locks, CT. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Christ Community Church, 103 Springfield St., followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery . Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St., Chicopee is in charge of services. Donations may be made in her memory to the Christ Community Church.
