Chad Lynn Webb, 32, Webb City, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009, in Butler, Mo. Chad Webb was born May 8, 1977, in Carthage, the son of David Lynn Webb and Stella Louise (Steverson) Webb. He was a graduate of Webb City High School, Class of 1995, where he played for the Webb City Cardinals football team and was a team member for the 1992 and 1993 State Championships. He attended Pittsburg State University where he played for the PSU Gorillas, earning the distinction of being named an All American player and was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, 1997. He transferred from PSU to MSSC, where he was a graduate of the MSSC Police Academy. He married Brandi Felker on Aug. 1, 1998. She survives. He served as a jailer for the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, later joining the Carthage Police Department in August of 2000. Sgt. Webb was assigned to the Jasper County Drug Task Force on Jan. 5, 2009. In June 2006, he was appointed as a police representative for the Carthage Policemen and Firemen Pension Committee. He devoted his life, first to his family, then to his policeman's oath to serve and protect and finally to his love for fishing. Survivors include his wife, Brandi, of the home; two daughters, Kai and Peyton Webb, of the home; two brothers, John Webb and wife, Amber, Carterville, Mo., and Joshua Webb, Oronogo, Mo.; his sisters-in-law, Alicia and Kristin Walker, Joplin, Mo.; his parents, David Lynn Webb and Stella Louise (Steverson) Webb, Oronogo; and his maternal grandfather, Dewey Steverson, Carthage. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Lavonia Steverson; and his paternal grandparents, John and Geneva Webb. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at the Fairview Christian Church, Carthage. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 15, at Fairview Christian Church, Carthage. Burial will be in Carterville Cemetery, Carterville, Mo. Memorial gifts are suggested for the benefit of Kai and Peyton Webb's Scholarship Fund in care of Southwest Missouri Bank, Carthage. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Knell Mortuary, 308 West Chestnut, Carthage, MO, 64836.
