Born April 4, 1946, in Calhoun County, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Raymond and Dorothy Wilson Wears, and a stepson of the late Ray Rhoads.
He was employed as a Class A mechanic at the Packaging Corp. of America, Pittsburgh, and formerly worked at the Owens Illinois Co., Levittown, Pa. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his quad and camping with his family. He was a true craftsman, known for his natural ability to assemble and repair machines, even designing and fabricating tools to complete the job, and recently, applying these skills to building computers with his son.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Shirley Hester Wears; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Shelly Mock, Levittown; a daughter and her companion, Patricia Moser and Joe Minnette, Ambridge; eight grandchildren, Brian, Ronnie, Desiree, Michael, Melissa, Matthew, Autumn and Sheyanne; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Ruth Wears, of Calhoun; an uncle, Orland Rhoads, in Ohio; a close friend, Dan Quinn, Conway, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Shepard.
Friends will be received Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 9 p.m. in the Poland Funeral Home, 901 First Ave., Conway, with the Rev. Michael Bailey, pastor of the Sylvania Hills Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will take place Monday at noon in Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens, Canton, Ohio.
