Wagoner- Wayne Wassom, 77, construction worker, died Saturday. Services pending. Shipman. (Tulsa World)
Wayne Wassom, 77, passed this life on Saturday April 23 in Muskogee while surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne was born on Feb. 20, 1934 in Wagoner to his parents Jacob "Jake" Leonard Wassom and Beulah Mae (Baker) Wassom.
After graduating high school, he went on to join the United States Navy enlisting on April 11, 1953 and was honorably discharged on March 11, 1961.
Wayne loved gardening, tending to his trees and being in the outdoors.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and going hunting with his son's.
Wayne worked in construction operating heavy equipment one of his true passions was operating his tractor.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Jacob "Jake" and Beulah Wassom; his wife, Opal Wassom, and one brother, Perry Wassom.
He leaves behind to cherish his special memories, two sons, Dan Wassom, and wife, Pamela, of Cabot, Ark., and James Wassom, of Okay; two daughters, Sherri Johnston, of Mansfield, Ark., and Kim Middleton, and husband, Charles, of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Kenneth Wassom, and wife, Linda, of Wagoner, and Lonnie Wassom, of Chouteau; two sisters, Margaret Rooks, of Inola, and Martha Phillpott, of Jenks; nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, along with numerous other relatives and friends who are sure to miss him dearly.
Funeral services for Wayne are at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 at Shipman Funeral Home Chapel with VA Chaplain Jim Durham officiating.
Burial will follow to Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner with military honors.
