Sedan – Shirley J. Boulanger, 85, of Sedan, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.

She was born on January 3, 1927 in Sedan, Kansas to Cleo J. "Dutch" Warring and Nellie (Anderson) Warring. She attended school at the Maggie Kilmer Grade School in Sedan before graduating early from Sedan High School. After high school she attended Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia, Kansas receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching. While in college she was a member of the sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma.

On September 8, 1946 she married Edward E. Boulanger in Sedan, Kansas and to this union four children were born. They were later divorced. Her teaching career started in 1949 at Admire, Kansas. She then taught in Wichita, Kansas, Osage County, Oklahoma and Chautauqua, Kansas before beginning her tenure with the Sedan School System in 1961. Shirley retired from teaching in 1991.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan, also the choir director for many years at the church, was a member of the PEO, and also enjoyed taking annual trips with her Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority sisters. She also was the director of volunteers for the Emmett Kelly Museum for many years.

She is survived by three daughters; Andrea Novak and husband Dan of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Darby Cole and husband Gary of rural Elk City, Kansas, and Stacy Hicks and husband Curtis of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; one son, Kirk Boulanger and wife Barbara of Towanda, Kansas; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; two nephews, Pastor John R. Warring of Sedan, Kansas and Jim Warring of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her brother John Ed Warring and her parents.

Church services will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Pastor John Warring of the First Christian Church and Pastor Gary Cole of the Lone Cherry Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

Family and Friends may call on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.

The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, or Sedan High School Music Department and those remembrances may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
