Clifford D. Wardle, 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at Ashley Valley Medical Center on Nov. 8, 2001 at approximately noon.

Cliff was born July 31, 1925 in Vernal to Heber George and Susanna Deans Wardle. He was the youngest of 10 children. Cliff grew up and attended school in Vernal and after graduation he served his country in the Army during and after WW II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service ribbon, Philippine Liberation Service ribbon with one Bronze star, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged Jan. 9, 1949 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Cliff married his sweetheart, Bonnie Holtby, on Sept. 15, 1956. They had three daughters and were sealed as a family on June 34, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Cliff was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His service to his community extended to his involvement in the Lions Club. He was an active member of the service organization for many years and filled various positions within the organization including president.

He worked in the restaurant industry for many years in various locations. He later worked at the Utah Fieldhouse of Natural History in Vernal until his retirement.

However, he soon thereafter began work at the Vernal Wal Mart store as a cashier and more famously, as a door greeter. Cliff loved to greet people and thoroughly enjoyed his association with all he met.

Cliff loved a great many things. He had a deep love of music, and served as a ward organist for many years. After the completion of the Vernal LDS Temple he had the opportunity to play the organ there as well as serve as an ordinance worker. He loved to sing and performed with various opera companies during his life.

Cliff also had a green thumb. He had a knack for plants that came to life each year when his yard boomed into a beautiful assortment of flowers, trees and other vegetation. He enjoyed gardening and grew his own vegetables to share with others. His love for greenery was evident during his years with the Vernal Dinosaur Museum as he tended the outdoor gardens, keeping them lush and green. He beautified the museum during the winter months as he directed the hanging of the Christmas lights.
Cliff's greatest love was for his family. His wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren, were of foremost importance in his life and he always expressed love and appreciation for all of them. He loved family gatherings, drives, and spending time fishing with those he loved.

Clifford is survived by his wife Bonnie Jean, of Vernal, and his children: Wendy (Tom) Thomas, Vernal, Tamie (Tim) Jorgensen of Logan, and Staci (Ron) Goodrich of Brigham City; 14 grandchildren, who were the joy of Cliff's life, will miss him. His twin brother Donnell, and sisters, Norma Simper and Maryetta Wardle, also survive him. His parents, Heber and Susanna, brothers, Lowell, Boyd, Lawrence, James, Dean, and his sisters Delores Stephenson and Marguerite Curtis, preceded Cliff in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Glines 1st Ward Chapel with Bishop David Olsen officiating.

Donnell Wardle offered the family prayer, with the invocation being given by Bruce Satra.

Prelude and postlude music was provided by Janet Pederson. Musical numbers sung by Cliff's children and grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Alisa Escobar, Brynn Lane, Camille Goodrich, Tyrell Jorgensen, Michelle Thomas, Sarah Hanaford, Stephanie Wardwell and Lacy Jorgensen.
