While her father was serving in Concord, Ruby met William B. "Bill" Ward, Jr. and they married and became the parents of two daughters, Millicent "Millie" and Ruby Jane.
Ruby's career was her family and her church. Her arms reached wide to minister to her extended family, and there wasn't a cousin, niece, or nephew untouched by her hospitality. A kind and loving person, she gave of her time and interest so that the lucky recipient felt that he or she was the most important person in her life.
Ruby was taken away by cancer at age 65, a young age by Varner standards. She still lives in our hearts and memories, a woman with a great gift of sharing her love and care.
