Billy was born in Carbon Hill, AL, son of the late Avery and Louise Fields Ward, on March 30, 1931.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Jones Funeral Home in Swansboro, NC with Pastor Larry Haggard officiating. Entombment will follow in Seaside Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Earl Haydel, Linda and Ronald Jennings, and Lisa and Brian Perdue; sons, Billy Ward, Jr. and Bobby Ward; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Billy was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-six years, Bobbie Delay Ward.
He enjoyed working in his yard and taking his dog for long walks. His greatest pleasure was visiting with his many grandchildren. Billy was an avid gun collector and enjoyed puzzles and making models.
He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1951 and served in Korea. He later completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. Billy retired from the Marines in 1972. After his retirement he attended Coastal Carolina Community College and later went to work for Terminex in Morehead City and retired from there in 1997.
The discipline and patriotism Billy learned in the marines never left him. Although retired from the Corp he lived his life by their moto “Semper Fi”.
