OBITUARY
Elizabeth Frances Walters Kyker, Johnson City, was born on February 5, 1918 in a small frame house in Washington County, Tenn. Her parents were Edward Fleming Walters and Martha Ellen Walters. She was the youngest of five children: Marietta Martin, Ida Crockett, Albert Walters, and Anna Hilbert.
Frances married Bob Kyker on August 15, 1936 in Jonesboro, Tenn. and helped him run their furniture store in Johnson City, Kyker Furniture. On April 11, 1951, she and Bob had a daughter, Martha Sue Kyker and as she wrote in her journal, this was a red-letter day for her and Bob!
Frances was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Johnson City, very much involved in the Dogwood Acres Garden Club, and was elected president of the Club in 1955. She was an avid gardener, bird watcher and cook; her recipes for fried chicken and chocolate meringue pie have yet to be duplicated in the family. Frances also loved to dance, fish, and play golf and enjoyed her daily Old Charter bourbon and water.
Frances spirit lives on through her family: her daughter, Martha Kyker Jenny and her son-in-law David Jenny, as well as her granddaughters Elizabeth Ellen Jenny, Tina Jenny Ford and her husband Donnie Ford, her great-granddaughter Haile Breanna Ford, Gene Martin, Frances nephew, three great-nieces, Mary Wheeler, Kathy Martin and Barb Martin, three great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.
