Elizabeth Turner Walker

Mrs. Bryan S. Walker, the former Elizabeth Turner, died October 22 at her home on Main Street following a long illness. Mrs. Walker, 78, was a well known civic and social leader who had a wide circle of friends in Madison and Morgan County. She was an active member in numerous organizations, particularly with the Morgan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Cancer Society and the Red Cross. She loved people, and because of her generous, outgoing personality, was a popular favorite among the townspeople.

Elizabeth Turner Walker was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on December 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Eva Thomas Turner. She grew up in South and North Carolina where she had many friends. After completing school, she became a hairdresser and practiced that occupation for many years. She married well known Madisonian Bryan Walker and lived with him in Madison. Two years ago the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and their children entertained for them at a party at Heritage Hall.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Page Walker Jones, Conyers; a son, Mr. Alan Turner Walker, New York; and two grandchildren, Bryan Walker Jones and Wesley Riner Jones, both of Conyers.

Funeral services were held at the graveside at Madison Cemetery on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. The Reverend Jim Ross, pastor of the Madison Baptist Church, and the Reverend W.T. Booth officiated. Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
