Due to the early death of his parents, Irving was raised by a Kesterson family.
Irving served in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War of 1898 and he was a Quarter Master Sergeant in the 2nd. West Virginia Infantry Division. Irving had the nickname "General" and his children scarcely knew him by his real name.
Irving married Laura Etta Pence Belcher. Irving worked as a sawmill sawyer, logger and timberman.
The eight children of Irving and Laura are:

2. James Pendleton Walker (1903 - 1962)
3. Ena Mae Walker Stuart (1905 - ?)
4. Maude Erie Gertrude Walker Perdue Schryer (1906 - ?)
5. Howard Samuel Walker (1908 - 1986)
6. Isabel Ellen Walker Cobbler (1910 - 1985)
7. Jessie Vivian Walker Hall (no dates)
