Ms. Walker was born to George Washington Smith, Jr. of Wellston and Mattie Claude Ellis Smith of Haynesville. Raised in Houston County, she graduated from Perry High School in 1934. After receiving her degree from Wesleyan College in 1938, she spent most of her adult life in Macon, where she was, since 1950, an active member of First Baptist Church of Christ. Ms. Walker served as a Sunday School and Training Union teacher there for a number of years. -Born to sell, she began honing her skills at age six by selling five-cent baskets of peaches at the train depot in front of her Grovania home to rail passengers traveling North and South on the "Shoo-fly." Many years later Ms. Walker put her salesmanship skills to use in the real estate profession, throughout a career spanning four decades. After receiving her real estate license in 1959, she served with several companies during her career, including one that she established, before retiring in 1992. She was the first woman realtor in Macon to become a life member of the Million Dollar Club of the Macon Board of Realtors. In addition to her full-time career, Ms. Walker, after the death of her parents, managed and maintained her father's pecan groves for over 50 years on her beloved Klondike-a family farm in Houston County. -Ms. Walker was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cynthia Gail Gillette; by both parents; and by her four siblings, Ellis E. Smith, Mary Ethel Davis King, Georgelle McKibben Tolleson, and Claude Hoke Smith. -She is survived by her son, James Kenneth Walker and his wife Gail, of Macon; by her granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Walker Cochran and her husband David of Thomasville, Georgia; by her grandson, Stuart Ellis Walker and his wife Brandon of Macon; and by her four great-grandchildren, Maylon James Cochran, Carson Helen Cochran, Emory Elizabeth Cochran and Sarah Ellis Walker.
