Peter Walker Dies in California

Peter Gautier Walker, 44, former resident of Madison, and the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Pierre G. Walker, died suddenly at his home in Sun Valley, California. Mr. Walker has been associated with ITT Gilfillan Inc. for 15 years, both in the United States and foreign countries. He attended Georgia Tech and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He moved to Calif. from Athens Greece in 1966. Previously he had lived abroad in Holland and Spain. He also represented his company in Texas at one time.

Born in Madison, he was the son of Pierre G. Walker and Anne Barrett Walker and grew up on the family plantation Walkerest. He was graduated from Madison High School where he was one of the school's most popular students. While he was a student at Tech, he had to interrupt his studies to enter the United States Marine Corp in World War II. As a Marine reservist, he was called back to active duty in the Korean War. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

He was married to the former Leona Leavitt of Atlanta who survives him. Aside from his widow and parents, he is survived by a son Peter G. Walker, two daughters, Leona and Lauren Anne of Sun Valley, California, two brothers, Mr. Barrett L. Walker of Richmond, Virginia, and Mr. Marshall Peteet Walker, of Kansas City, Kansas.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at eleven o'clock at Madison Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Tucker Singleton officiated. Pall bearers included Bryan Walker, William J. Atkinson, Paul Reid, William Baldwin, Cornelius Vason, C.W. Richter, Usher Thomason and Graham Ponder. Burial was in Old Madison Cemetery. W.C. Hemperley was in charge of arrangements. The family asked that flowers please be omitted.
