Alta Marie Dorman, 93, of Jones, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003. She was born to Simon and Rose Worel Wagner on May 12, 1909, on land near Luther, Oklahoma that her parents homesteaded in the Land Run in 1889. She retains ownership of the original homestead and has added many acres through the years. She was a born farmer and enjoyed the outdoors. One of her grandmothers came west on the Trail of Tears, finally settling in Oklahoma. She married John Edward Dorman and moved to Jones, Oklahoma, where she lived the rest of her life. She and her husband farmed, raised registered Herford cattle, planted pecan trees, and built a house on land along the North Canadian River. They also operated a dairy, at one time selling milk to the original Townley’s. They later latter purchased a feed store and Sinclair service station in Jones. She continued her livestock and farming operations until he passed away. She had a wonderful sense of adventure and loved to travel. Over the years, she visited most of the states and many other countries, such as Germany, Italy, France, England, Canada and Mexico. But she was most content with her family and friends. In addition to the friends she made during her many years on Main Street in Jones, she joined several organizations over her life, including Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, Ladies’ Aid, Home Demonstration Club, Rebekah Lodge, and Royal Neighbors. Alta had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star for fifty years. She enjoyed keeping up with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great great grandchildren. A member of the First Christian Church in Luther, her life was a lesson to her family and friends of the durability of the simple strength of hard work, endurance, cheerfulness, and courage. She is survived by Helen Marie Hogan and her husband Bill of Edmond and Mary Lou Dean of Jones; her grandchildren, Mary Spelman and her husband Jeff, John Dean and his wife Susan, Bill Dean and his wife Christie, Rebecca Marie Heil and her husband Keith, Jo Lynn Manar and her husband Jeff, John Edward Dorman and his wife Sarah, Jack Dorman, Robert Dorman and his wife Sarah, Lee Edward Smith and his wife Kristen; her great grandchildren, Todd Dean and his wife Dee, Aimee Wilson and her husband Billy. Jennifer Marie Heil, Marisa Shefer and her husband Jay, Bill Dean III, Grant Heil, Sean Dean, Kerry Lauren Spelman, Bill Hogan Heil, Mary Megan Dean, John Edward Dorman III, Field Manar, Mitchell Manar, Aaron Dorman, and Adam Dorman; three great great grandchildren Richard Dean, Abbee Wilson and Alex Wilson joined the family in the last few years. Alta was preceded in death by her husband John Edward Dorman; her parents; two sisters, Marion Murphy and her husband Jim, Teresa Niccum and her husband Jack, and James Wagoner and his wife Grace; her children Jack Dorman and Rozella Smith, and one great granddaughter Mary Katherine Dorman. Funeral services will the held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd in Nicoma Park, Oklahoma.
