Isabelle Wade Bacon died October 18, 2007. Born in Charlotte in 1911, she was a longtime resident of New York City. She was the daughter of Rosalie and Howard Wade of Charlotte, NC. Isabelle Bacon founded the Holy Land Museum and Library, now located in Pawling, NY. She was a Dame in the American Order of St. John of Jerusalem. She was honored with a proclamation of 'Isabelle Bacon Day' from the city of New York and named 'Woman of the Year' by Arabesque Radio. She received a lifetime achievement award from the Peale Center for Positive Thinking and founded the Arab and American Women's Friendship Association. Isabelle Bacon is the author of 'Walking Beside Jesus in The Holy Land', acknowledged as one of the finest Bible study books. Her articles have appeared in such magazines as Guideposts and in many newsletters and newspapers. The North Carolina Society of New York honored Isabelle on March 9, 1999 as a person who has brought 'honor to her native state' by her accomplishments. A graduate of Smith College, Isabelle Bacon received her Master's degree from Teacher's College, Columbia University in New York City, studied at The Sorbonne in Paris and graduated from Lloyd Shaw's Folk Dance School at the Trapp Family Music Camp in Stowe, Vermont. Mrs. Bacon was a member of The Foreign Policy Association, The Sniffen Court Association, Murray Hill Association, Marble Collegiate Church, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Near East Foundation, and The Spafford Children's Center Association. She is survived by a daughter; three grandsons; and 2 great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 26 at Marble Collegiate Church at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Isabelle Bacon Holy Land Museum, The Peale Center for Christian Living, 66 East Main Street, Pawling, NY 12564-1409.
