Jean Wachter, 94, Auburn, passed away at his home, Saturday, August 29, 2015.

Jean was born on October 7, 1920, in Commerce OK, the son of Lou and Orpha Wachter. He attended school in Kansas City KS until junior high, when he moved to Topeka, and then attended Topeka High School. Jean was united in marriage to Helen Parr in 1942; she preceded him in death on September 23, 2013. They lived in Brooklyn NY where he was stationed in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. They returned to Topeka in 1946 and soon bought a farm and learned to care for the land and animals. Jean was in the cattle business for 65 years and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Jean was a trustee on the Auburn High School Board, was a director on the ASCS Board and was also on the board of the Shawnee County Farm Bureau. He received an award on the Soil Conservation Board and was a trustee in Auburn Township. Jean was also a big truck mechanic and enjoyed remodeling old, worn-out trucks.

Jean and Helen had two exchange students from South America live with them ten years apart. He enjoyed being able to teach them how to raise cattle. Later, Jean and Helen went to South America to visit them.

Grateful for sharing his life are his children, Richard W. Wachter (Maureen), Osage Beach MO, and Sherry J. Fisher (Edward), Lebo KS; grandchildren, Shelly Davenport (Rick), Osage Beach MO, Ronnie G. Wachter (Christine), Chicago IL, Eddie A. Fisher (Michele), Mesa AZ and Heath Fisher, Overland Park KS; and two great-grandchildren, Molly and Leo.
