Collins Tom Williams, Sr., son of the late George and Nancy Williams was born July 4, 1902, in Osteen, FL. He was the baby of eleven children. All preceded him death.

As a youngster, he moved to Titusville, FL, with his family and attended school in Brevard County.

As a young man, he played baseball. If the scouts were looking for a black player back then, Collins would have succeeded.

In 1923, he married to the late Blanche Wilson Williams. To this union, five children were born, Nancy, Helen (deceased), Martha, Evelyn and Collins, Jr.

Collins was known as Daddy to his children, grandchildren, and to others. He was a loyal husband devoted father and a good provider for his family. Collins was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was with great wisdom and firmness.

His demise came on Saturday, January 16, 1999, at 9:29am in his home in Titusville, FL.

Collins Williams Sr., a retired citrus worker, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at home. He was 96. Mr. Williams came to Brevard County in 1913 from Osteen, where he was born.

"I remember him as being a father who you never had to look for," said his daughter, Martha Brooks of Titusville. "He was always there for his children and grandchildren, encouraging them to excel in education and in life."

"He encouraged me to go for the gold," said his daughter, Evelyn Bell of Titusville. "He was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren, always encouraging them to do and be the best.

"He also was an avid baseball fan and loved to play ball in his earlier years," Bell said. "He enjoyed baseball and gardening."

Mr. Williams was Baptist.

"I credit my father for learning to play the piano," said his daughter, Nancy Elmore of Titusville. "I recall him being a self-taught player himself.

When I was a little girl he purchased a piano so I could take lessons, and he always kept a piano in the home," she said.
