Mary Lou, oldest child and daughter of Paul and Mary Elizabeth (Cook) Vollmer was born in Ripley, Ohio on February 22, 1855. She departed this life on September 1, 1930 at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 8 days at the home of her son Charley after a year long illness.
Mary Lou married Robert A. Arey on October 26, 1873 in Mason County, Kentucky. To their marriage eight children were born: my Great Grandfather, Henry Lewis, Mary Emma Arey McCoy, Charles Alfred "Charlie", Jesse E., Fancy Belle, Margaret Mae Arey Knechtly Hagedorn and Rosa Lee Arey Montgomery. Jesse, Fancy Belle and one other child died in early childhood.
