Services for Mary Helen Alexander of Brookhaven are 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.
Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 4, from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Alexander, 80, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at King's Daughters Medical Center. She was born in Hartwell, Ga., on April 29, 1921, the youngest child of the late Lonard and Maude Vickery.
She grew up in Anderson, S.C., and graduated from Girls' High School. She attended the University of Mississippi and married John D. Alexander on Nov. 17, 1940. Her husband was called to the ministry and they were both active in church communities in South Carolina, Georgia and Mississippi.
Mrs. Alexander and her husband did extensive work with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in South America, Africa, England, Spain, Italy and Hawaii.
After retirement, she worked tirelessly to establish and build Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rock Springs, Wyo., and College Heights Baptist Church in Casper, Wyo.
Survivors are her husband; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Ginny Alexander of Tucson, Ariz., and Bobby Joe and Deena Alexander of Madison; and grandchildren, Kimberly Leigh Alexander of Ridgeland and Bobby Joe Alexander Jr. of Mendenhall.
The funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Perry C. Perkins, the Rev. Guy Henderson and the Rev. Willy Ried. Pallbearers are Rufus Nobel, John Curry, Buddy Russell, J.B. Leonard, Archie White and Joe Burns.
