When Melissa Pauline VEAL was born on December 8, 1845, in Washington County, Georgia, her father, John, was 35 and her mother, Sarah, was 28. She married Captain Benjamin Sessions BOATRIGHT on November 11, 1866, in Washington County, Georgia. They had 10 children in 19 years. She died on March 21, 1932, in Tennille, Georgia, at the age of 86, and was buried there.

TENNILLE, Ga., March 24 - Funeral services for Mrs. B.S. Boatright, who died Monday after a short illness, were held from the Tennille Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. R.D. Hodges, assisted by Dr. V.H. Persons and the Rev. E.G. Orahood, of Sandersville. Mrs. Boatright, who was formerly Miss Malissa Veal, was 86 years old and a member of a large and prominent family. She was the widow of Captain B.S. Boatright, a Confederate soldier who served throughout the War Between the States and was commander of Camp Graybill, U.C.V., until his death.
Surviving are eight children, Mrs. A.S. Darnell, Decatur, Ala.; Mrs. Tom Irwin, McRae; Mrs. J.G. Herringdine, Mrs. J.L. Joiner and Mrs. Horace Mathis, Sandersville; Mrs. Rosier Brown, Jacksonville, Fla.; Miss Clara Boatright and B.F. Boatright, Tennille; 18 grandchildren and two sister, Mrs. G.F. Boatright and Mrs. James Ray. The pallbearers were six of the grandsons, Jack Jenkins, Alva Irwin, Horace Mathis Jr., Frank Irwin, B.F. Boatright Jr. and Merrill Mathis. Interment was in Zeta cemetery, Tennille.
