Frances Vaughn Atwood, 90, of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rich Creek with her family by her side.

A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on January 22, 1921 and was the daughter of the late James William and Ada Virginia Whittaker Vaughn. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Carr Atwood; a son, Perry Mason Atwood; a daughter, Sandra Gravley; a grandson, Larry Spicer; and a great-grandson, Christopher Cecil Riggs; seven sisters; and three brothers.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Frances was truly an angel who loved her family and all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are a son, James Atwood of Christiansburg; four daughters, Georgia Jones and husband Jack of Narrows, Linda Farmer and husband Willis of Hiwassee, Va., Debbie Atwood of Pearisburg, and Shirley Atwood of Narrows; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends, including all who cared for her during her last days.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider Cedar Grove Church of Christ, c/o 3265 Wolf Creek Road, Narrows, VA 24124.
