Ella Ramsey Vanterpool, 71, grew up in Mississippi and Louisiana. She graduated from High School in Louisiana. She studied nursing at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama and earned an LPN from BOCES and went on to Southern Michigan College to earn her RN. She earned her BSN from Andrews University. She began her nursing career at Winthrop Hospital. She was a private duty nurse for many years and a nursing supervisor at Berrien General Hospital in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She resided in Columbus, Ohio for the last 14 years and attended Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Ella was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was considered a trailblazer for the family especially her sister, Lolita and Mattie.
Preceded in death by mother, Lottie P. Ramsey; father, Minor C. Ramsey, Sr.; sister, Luberta Smoot; brothers, Geney Ramsey and Clifton Ramsey.
Survived by husband, Donald L. Vanterpool, Sr.; son, Donald L. (Joanne) Vanterpool, II; daughter, Valerie R. Vanterpool; brothers, Minor C. (Marilyn) Ramsey, Sr. of Amite, LA, Artie E. Ramsey of Indianapolis, IN, Freeman W. Ramsey of Hammond, LA, Cleavon Ramsey of Berrien Springs, MI; sisters, Lolita R. Whitfield, Mattie R. Thomas both of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Apria, Donald L. C. III, Jordan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
