Ernest Lyle Van Every, 83, of Rupert, passed away quietly and peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2013, in Burley, Idaho.

Ernest was born on April 3, 1929, in Rupert, Idaho, the son of Bert and Pearl Witherspoon Van Every. He grew up in Rupert and graduated from Rupert High School in 1948. He farmed and worked at the sugar factory until he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict receiving his honorable discharge in 1952.

On April 24, 1953, he married his sweetheart, Roberta Rasmussen, in Rupert. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Utah LDS Temple on May 3, 1979. They were blessed with nine children. Ernie loved his family and provided for them by farming and working at Amalgamated Sugar Factory for more than 40 years.

He loved his God and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in many callings. He worked in the Young Men as secretary, served in the Sunday school presidency, as high priests group leader, membership clerk, and his favorite calling as ward mission leader. He loved visiting with people and sharing the gospel.

He enjoyed being outside taking care of his cows and working in his garden. He had a talent of making things out of wood. Many of his children and grandchildren received many things that he made.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Van Every of Rupert; his children, Crystal (Ken) Luke of Stansbury Park, Utah, David (Gloria) Van Every of Filer, Idaho, Lisa (Jim) Carter of South Jordan, Utah, Barbara (Don) Romano of Rupert, Idaho, Jason (Pam) Van Every of Heyburn, Idaho, Robert (Elizabeth) Van Every of Carey, Idaho, Beth (Dave Rettew) Van Every of Heyburn, Idaho and Brent (Emma) Van Every of Acequia, Idaho; one brother, Bill (Anna Mae) Van Every; three sisters-in-law, Lois Rasmussen, Maxine Rasmussen, and Norma Rasmussen; 36 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip "Perky" Van Every; his parents, Bert and Pearl Van Every; and brothers, Norval, Glen and Leo Van Every.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the Rupert LDS Stake Center, 324 E. 18th St., in Rupert, with Bishop Kelly Allen officiating. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
