Civil War Union Army Officer. 1st Lieutenant and Regimental Adjutant, 21st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry.

Adjutant Andrew C. Van Buskirk (1835-1901) Andrew received this sword and rifle when he enlisted on May 1, 1861, just one week after he married Adeline Williams. Andrew served in Company E. under his brother Hiram, who had left a wife and two children to enlist. Both men were born at the Van Buskirk homestead on Constable Hook.
