Son of Bertolomeo 'Benjamin' and Lydia Olive (Stegmaro) Vallerga. A native of San Francisco, his widowed mother and her children moved to Union, in Humboldt County, Calif.

Benny returned home after the end of WW II to work in the lumber mills of Humboldt County. His good friend, Lincoln Matteri, introduced him to his sister, Evelyn E. Matteri. Benny and Evelyn would marry and make their home "three doors down" from Lincoln and his family. Evelyn died from cancer in 1996. Benny stayed in the home they made together until his death. They did not have children. They loved and were loved by their many nieces & nephews, Grandnieces & Grandnephews.

They are buried together; next to Lincoln & Josetta Matteri in the mausoleum; north east section of Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka, CA.
