Martha Tweedy was the daughter of John and Mary Tweedy.
On December 20, 1854, Martha Tweedy married Benjamin Hall Brodnax or Broadnax, son of William E. and Adeline Beebe Brodnax/Broadnax (I have seen the name spelled both ways.), in Augusta, Richmond County, GA (Richmond County Marriage Book, 1839-1855, p. 350). They were married by J.G. Burney.
At one time, Martha owned the former residence of Henry Schultz, deceased and founder of old Hamburg, SC. It was situated on twenty-nine acres upon Schultz's Hill, near the town of Hamburg. The property contained a dwelling, outbuildings, large orchard of fruit trees and a vineyard. The Sheriff's Sale was dated June 24, 1869. (Benjamin H. Brodnax was listed as trustee for Martha.)
On the 1870 U.S. Federal Census, Mrs. Brodnax/Broadnax was listed as living with her mother and brother in Augusta. On the 1880 U.S. Federal Census, Mrs. Brodnax was listed again with her family and divorced. So Martha and Ben must have divorced about 1869.
On October 27, 1891, Mrs. Broadnax died in Brooklyn, New York, (her sister Georgianne lived there) of Consumption and was buried on November 1, 1891 in Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta.
BRODNAX.-In Brooklyn, on Tuesday, October 27 (while on a visit to her sister), Mrs. MARTHA BRODNAX, of Augusta, Ga. Interment at Augusta.
