He decided to go home and was walking on the railroad tracks, the engineer did not see him nor was there any reason to blow his horn, the train hit Joe Richard and he was killed instantly, he was 32.

Susan "Susie" Elizabeth Turner Bailey died January 10, 1880, leaving behind 6 children ages 10 to 4, and was buried in Fuller Cemetery, Minden, Webster Parish Louisiana.
Susie Turner Bailey and William Hopkins "Butch" Bailey led a full and happy life until Susie's death.
