LUBBOCK-Darlene Turner, 88, of Lubbock, Texas, and formerly of Levelland, Texas, passed away on April 23, 2012, at Odyssey Hospice in Lubbock, Texas. Celebration of life services are under the direction of George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas, and will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012, in George Price Funeral Home Chapel in Levelland with Rob Core officiating. Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery in Levelland. There will be a family visitation on Friday, April 27, 2012, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at George Price Funeral Home in Levelland. Darlene was born on June 27, 1923, in Carbon, Texas. She was the daughter of Luther LT and Ruth (Wyatt) Reese. She married the love of her life, A.D. Dean Turner, on Oct. 17, 1941. Darlene was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Levelland prior to her moving to Lubbock in 2001 to live with her daughter, Paula Hines. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed her reputation as an outstanding baker of pies, cakes and homemade hot rolls, which she lovingly shared with family and neighbors. The only thing not shared with her daughter, Paula, were the recipes. She baked her wonderful foods until her eyesight and health began to fail. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Kenneth Turner and his wife Lawanna of Waco, Texas; her daughter, Paula Hines and her husband Vic of Lubbock, Texas; her only sister, Elaine Bennett of Ashburn, Va.; her niece, Gina McNeely and her husband John of Ashburn, Va.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, L.T. and Ruth Reese; her husband, Dean; and a granddaughter, Brandi Hines.
