Mrs. Martha Cass Passes After Short Illness

Mrs. Martha Tufts Cass, 69, widow of Alonzo Beecher Cass, former president of the Southern California Telephone Co., died yesterday at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena, following a shirt illness.
Mrs. Cass, who lives at 4545 Palm Drive, La Canada, was one of Southern California's leaders in charity work. In 1920 she helped Mr. Cass raise more then $30,0000,000 as a Christmas gift for hungry children in Europe.
She leaves 10 sons and two daughters, who plan to gather a children's charity fun as a memorial to their parents. They are Philip, Frank, Louis, Don, Quincy, Harold, John, William, Robert and Dr Alonzo Cass, Jr., and Mrs. Emily Sanson and Mrs. Marcia Stewart.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Pierce Bros.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Tufts Cass, 68, widow of Alonzo Beecher Cass, former president of the Southern California Telephone Co., will be conducted tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Pasadena Presbyterian Church chapel under the direction of Pierce Bros. Mortuary. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. In place of flowers friends were asked to contribute to the Martha Tufts Cass Memorial Fund for Children at 675 S. St Andrews Place, Los Angeles, 5.

LOS ANGELES, Aug 24—Without telling any one, even their 12 children, Alonzo B. Cass, president of the Home telephone company, and his sister in law, Mrs. Martha T Muir, were quietly married yesterday afternoon. They left at once on a honeymoon trip , which will extend to Europe.

Parents were: John Q Tufts & Susan S Cook, Martha was a twin along with her brother George Washington Tuft. First marriage to David William Muir on 14 April 1897 with three sons born from that union and remarried on 23 Aug 1909 to Alonzo Beecher Cass with one daughter born from that union. Step-mother/Aunt to many children.
