His most famous role was playing 'Dr. Joe Early' on the 1970's television series "Emergency!," co-starring with wife, actress/singer Julie London, who played Nurse Dixie McCall. His wife was previously married to Jack Webb. London and Webb remained friends after their divorce in the early 1950's, and it was Webb (executive producer of "Emergency!") who recommended her and Troup to Robert A. Cinader, co-creator and producer of "Emergency!"
