On 29 November 1868 married Elizabeth Jane Clodfelder (or Clodfelter)at New Wells, Missouri. John & Eliza both buried at Apple Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Pocahontas, Missouri. They had a daughter (other children unknown) Mary {Molly) Jane Trickey, (Reta's grandmother} dob 28 March 1874, dod 2 January 1964.
