Joan Elizabeth Travis Burrows, 83, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 5, 2015.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Brian Hesse officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.
Joan was born to Harold Travis Sr. and Violetta Spock. Joan moved to Amarillo in 1950’s and worked for White Kirk Department store, until marrying the love of her life, Duane Burrows, on March 13, 1960. They were marred 50 years. She was a Christian woman was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duane; her parents, Harold and Violetta Travis; her brothers, Frank R. Travis, George J. Travis, Bill Travis and Elsworth “Tinker” Hann; her sisters, Agnes Conklin, Edna “Tootie” Travis and Martha Kingsley; and a grandson, Michael Jay Burrows II.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Rutter and husband Marion Ty of Clovis, N.M.; a granddaughter, Angela Dooley and husband Brent of Bossier City, La.; her great-granddaughters, Amelia and Evelyn, both of Bossier City; two nieces, Linda Travis of Amarillo and Cindy Grinstead and husband Bruce of Fort Worth; a brother, Harold G. Travis of Peekskill, N.Y.; a sister, Lorraine Turner of Lake Peekskill, N.Y.; and numerous loving family members in Peekskill.
The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Lutheran Church; High Plains Food Bank; Salvation Army; Faith City Mission; St. Jude’s; Crohn’s; or Colitis Foundation of Amarillo.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
