Green B. Travis Dies After Illness - Services set today at Heidelberg
Funeral services will be conducted today at e p.m. from Heidelberg, for Green B. Travis, 79, former mayor of Heidelberg, who died here yesterday at the home of a son, W.J. Travis, 338 Jennings St. Rev. Bryan Simmons, pastor, will officiate and will be assisted by Dr. L.G. Gates, Laurel. Interment will be made in the Heidelberg cemetery.
Mr. Travis is also the father of J.A. Travis, Cecil Travis and a brother to Mrs. Ida Kelly, all of Jackson.
Mrs. Travis suffered a stroke in 1940, since which time he has been an invalid.
He was one of South Mississippi's leading and most useful citizens for more than 50 years. He reared a large family, all today prominent in various fields of activity.
At the age of 21, r. Travis became a deacon in the Baptist church n which capacity he served as long as he was physically active. The school, the church and every progressive civic enterprise, as well as countless embers of is neighborhood and friends, always found in Mr. Travis a sympathetic and helpful friend.
He is survived by seven sons, J.a., Cecil ad W.J. Travis, all of Jackson; J.M. Travis, Meridian; Milton Travis, Charlotte, N.C.; Rev C.N. Travis, New Iberia, La., and R.P. Travis, recently released from the armed service; one daughter, Mrs. J.H.Hooks, Rayville, La.; five sisters, Miss Eliza Travis, Heidelberg; Mrs. Ida Kelly, Jackson; Mrs. W.A. Stevens, Bay Springs; Mrs. Susie Trest, De Funiak Springs, Fl., and Mrs. Mattie McLelland and one brother, S.R. Travis of Hattiesburg.
