William "Bill" C. Towle, of Sudbury, died in his home on May 6, 2011.
It was his 80th birthday.
Bill is survived by his adoring wife, Alison (Steele) Towle, his high school sweetheart whom he married in 1952.
Bill and Alison loved being together, sharing God's blessings.
Bill was a humble, generous, and loving father to his six children, Steven Towle, in Minnesota; Deborah Bierly and husband Steven, in Hull, Iowa; Bradley Towle and wife Jenny, in Nashville, Tenn.; Diane Lehman and husband Bob, in Nantucket; Pamela Alison Mahoney and husband Squire, in Douglas; and Richard Towle and wife Lisa, in Dunstable. He was adored by his 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Marion Peddle of Arizona, and Ruth Moquin of Florida.
Bill was raised in Reading, and graduated from Reading High School in 1949.
He graduated from Tufts University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and from MIT Graduate School. Bill worked for GTE in Needham for 32 years, retiring as a Chief Engineer.
He is responsible for many telecommunications patents, including technology that created the Internet and the wireless phone network. Bill and Alison moved to Sudbury in 1960, where Bill was active in the Retired Men's Association, among many other activities.
For the past 18 years, Bill and Alison have spent their winters at Silver Lakes Resort in Naples, Florida, where they have enjoyed a wonderful community of friends."
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., at the Duckett-J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (Route 20), Sudbury.
Interment will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 9 a.m., at New Town Cemetery, Sudbury, followed by a memorial service, at 11 a.m., in the Grace Chapel, 59 Worthen Road, Lexington.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of William C. Towle to the Sudbury Community Food Pantry, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury, MA 01776 or to the Lexington Food Pantry, P.O.
