Mary Joyce Toomer, 82, went to her heavenly home Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier, Idaho from complications of age related illness. She was surrounded by loving family and had family with her throughout the last week as she prepared for her journey.

She was survived by her loving husband, Owen Blake Toomer; seven children - Douglas J. Freeman, son, of Montpelier; Brenda L. Pratt, Liana Gutierrez, daughters, both of Pocatello; daughter Roxanne (Jimmy)Witt of Nampa; son Donald B. (Clara Lee) Toomer of Yucca, Ariz.; daughter Susan Toomer of Dillon, Mont.; son Michael M. (Tara) Rose of Idaho Falls; 33 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren; her brother George (Ann) Lane of Montpelier; and many others she considered family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene A. Lane; her beautiful mother Beatrice O. Clark; and wonderful step-father Marvin E. Clark; her sister Delsa Lane Simms and brother-in-law Cal Simms; and one grandchild, Douglas "Owen" Freeman.

Mary was a twin, born a couple weeks after her twin sister was still born, on June 10, 1933 in Bancroft, Idaho to Eugene Alfred and Beatrice Olevia Lane. She had two older siblings, Delsa and George. Her growing up and school years were in Montpelier, where she eventually earned the nick-name "Corky" from her school mates. She was an avid ice skater and participated in couple skating events while in high school. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist with a beautiful singing voice. She loved all kinds of crafting such as bead work, sewing, painting, making anything she could by hand. She also loved all animals from domestic pets to wildlife. She was known to take in injured animals, nursing them back to health and making them beloved pets. She bred and raised birds for many years, tenderly caring for and hand feeding babies before selling or giving them to trusted family and acquaintances. Her relationship with her dogs throughout her life was very tender and precious. She had a knack she inherited from her mother for growing flowers and gardening. Oh how she loved flowers of all kinds. She also loved camping, fishing, hunting making those outing purely fun and joyful with family and friends. She would tell you she could out-fish anyone.

Mary's greatest joy was her family; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She made all of them feel unique and special. Each thinking they were the "favorite" or that she loved them the "moistest". Family holidays and get togethers were filled with epic fun and love.

Mary had lived in Montpelier, Soda Springs, Conda, and Kuna, Idaho. She had worked as a waitress, a Dietary Assistant at St. Anthony Hospital in Pocatello, in a pet shop (Mr. Roselli's) in Meridian, Idaho. She loved all her jobs and was a diligent, outstanding worker. Her favorite job was probably in the pet store, tending and caring for the pets and for the owner, Mr. Roselli as well.

She and Blake eventually returned to Bear Lake Valley in 1994 where they jointly managed the Bear Lake Airport for 18 years at which time they moved into the Bear Lake Manor (Assisted Living). Due to illness and complications of Alzheimer's she was moved into Bear Lake Skilled Nursing in late August following a severe bout of illness.

Mary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher; Primary teacher; Primary music conductor; Cub Scout Leader; and more. She and her sweet husband Owen Blake became very active in the Dingle, Idaho ward and were able to go to the Logan, Utah Temple on September 24, 2008 to be sealed for time and all eternity. The sealer who performed the ceremony was her brother, George Lane, making it extra special.

Funeral services for Mary will be on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at 1 p.m., viewing prior from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the Montpelier, Idaho 2nd Ward building, 585 N. 8th Street under the direction of Schwab-Matthews Mortuary. Burial will be in the Montpelier, Idaho Cemetery.
