Daughter of Samuel Spencer Tolbert and Florence A. Baker. She married Arthur Barnard, Sr. on October 27, 1908 in Wayne County, Illinios.

Tolbert , Violet Tolbert, Blanche Tolbert, Isaac Jefferson Tolbert, Lora Tolbert, William Ralph Tolbert, Holman Tolbert and one more brother that I have not identified his name.


Wayne County Press obituary Maiden name: Tolbert Mrs. Arthur Barnard, Sr., 79, a lifetime resident of the Wayne City area, died of a heart attack at her home in Wayne City. Mrs. Barnard has not been well the past year or so but her death was unexpected. For many years she and her husband, a former Wayne county sheriff, resided in the Bailey church vicinity north of Wayne City. May, daughter of Samuel S. and Florence Baker Tolbert, was born in Wayne county November 7, 1887. She was married October 27, 1908. Mrs. Barnard was a member of the Wayne City Baptist church. Surviving are her husband, three sons, Estel, Art, Jr., and Lavern; a daughter, Florence Bullard; two brothers, John and Herman Tolbert; and six sisters, Bessie Nelson, Violet Forth, Blanche Hoover, Zelma Sanders, Florene Stroud, and Grace Neaville. Funeral services were conducted from the Wayne City Baptist church with interment in Thomason Cemetery. The Richardson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.

He retired in 1978 after working in livestock business with his father and brother and in the grain buying and fertilizer business with his son. He and his late wife, Nola (Shehorn), operated B&H Coat Shop. He was a member of Arrington Prairie (Bailey) General Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, . . . ; a son, . . . ; a sister, Florence Bullard of Wayne City; a brother, . . . ; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Arrington Prairie (Bailey) Church, with burial in Thomason Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the church. York Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
