PEORIA - Dorothea Timm, 78, of Peoria passed away at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born May 27, 1929, in St. Joseph, Mich., to Otto and Gretchen (Dase) Weimann.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Timm; two daughters, Wendy Timm (Jack Owczarczak) of St. Louis, Mo., and Shelley Timm-Thompson (Charlie Thompson) of River Forest, Ill.; one son, Bill Timm Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren, Lauren, Tommy and Annie Brummett, Charlie and Olivia Thompson and Grant Timm; and three sisters and two brothers.
Dorothea graduated from Valparaiso University in 1951.
She was head librarian at McClure Library in Peoria for many years, as well as a career counselor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
As a leading member of the League of Woman Voters in the 1970s, she championed for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.
She was an avid reader her entire life and a member of the Bradley University Book Club until her death. She was also an active member of Salem Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at Salem Lutheran Church, 1700 W. War Memorial Drive, Peoria. Pastor Stephan Barnes will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
The Wilton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
