Michael J. Tierney, 68 years old, died in Morton Hospital, Taunton, Sept. 21, 2011. Born in Rumford, Maine, son of the late Joseph and Mae (Bulger) Tierney, he was a 1961 graduate Boston Trade High School and received an associate's degree from Fisher Junior College. He moved from Maine to Roxbury and Jamaica Plain as a youth. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Gallant, a minesweeper, and did four tours of duty in Vietnam, and then served in the U.S. Navy Reserves until 1968. Michael was a member of Local 56, Carpenters and Piledrivers, as a union welder, from 1969 to 2003. Michael taught welding at Southeastern Regional High School in Easton, from 1978 to 1980. In 1972, he married Kathleen (Hanscomb) Tierney, now of Raynham, and they had three children, Michael Tierney and Michele Tierney, both of Raynham, and Kerrrin Marmolejos, now of New Jersey, and her husband Manuel. He was the grandfather of Mackenzie, Patrick, Cameron, Joey, Mia and Noah. Michael was the brother of Kathleen Major of Eugene, Ore., and Patricia Guy of Candia, N.H., and the late Joseph Tierney of Iowa. He was the brother-in-law of Lawrence and Loretta Hanscomb; and uncle of Marlene, Maureen, Mark, Donald, Cheryl and Mary-Ellen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial in St. Ann's Church, Raynham, Saturday at 9 a.m. Visiting hours Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. (Rte. 138 South), Taunton. Interment in New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Judes Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
