Son of William George Tidwell (1842-1898) and Nancy Jane Orr (1846-1910). He was named after his maternal-grandfather John Bunyon Orr (1808-1885) who would later be involved in a fatal buggy accident in Fayette County. J. B. Tidwell married Shellanna Marvillier "Anner" Holt (1864-1948) on 24 November 1889 in Fayette County. One child: Clifford Anna "Annie" Tidwell (1894-1972), that married John "Walter" BARROW (1892-1958).
