Willie Goldie Carder, 99, formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, in Borger.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Winfred Moore, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Willie Carder moved to Borger seven years ago and was a resident of Quinn's Care Center. She was born Nov. 21, 1909, in Anson, one of 10 children to French and Vera Thurmond. After her mother died early, she helped raise eight of her siblings. Willie was 20 years old and worked as a telephone operator, when she fell in love with and married a handsome railroader, Frank Carder, in Hereford on payday, Oct. 16, 1929. They were married for 72 years when Frank died in 2002.
Willie had been a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo since 1942. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a charter member of High Plains Baptist Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers, a Sunday school teacher, sales person at Duncan Jewelers and lover of all things beautiful. She spent many years using the creative talents God gave her through china painting.
She also was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Amanda Carder.
Survivors include a son, Bill Carder and wife Joan of Borger and their children, Steve and Janis Carder of Canyon and Cristin; a daughter, Missy Schrib and husband Lanny and their children, Ben and Lindley; a son, Bradl Jones; a daughter, Debbie Cluxton and husband Todd of Oviedo, Fla., and their children, Cody Lynch, Cade Lynch and Maddie Cluxton; a daughter, Linda Astuto and husband Steve of Amarillo and their children, Gina, Tony and Allie; and a sister, Lyn Green of Glendale, Ark.
The family suggests memorials be to Quinn's Care Center, 920 S. Main St., Borger, TX 79007; or Hospice Care of the Southwest, 1301 S. Coulter St., Suite 404, Amarillo, TX 79106.
