Stewart Humpherys THURMAN passed away in Idaho Falls Idaho. Stewart Humpherys Thurman is the son of Stewart McCombs THURMAN and Adell HUMPHERYS. Stewart was the oldest of five children. He went to Grover Elementary which included grades 1-8. Then he attended high school in Afton. Stewart graduated in 1956. That fall he attended USU and four years later he graduated with a degree in Zoology. He then attended graduate school at USU.
A few months later he was drafted to the army. He was stationed at Fort Ord. California. After completing his service he chose to stay in California for two more years. In 1966 Stewart returned to Star Valley. He got a job at the Afton saw mill and stayed at that job for many years making many life long friends.
In 1968 he met Lila Lee Long. They were married on January 24 1969. Lila had six sons. They lived in Fairview for ten years. During their marriage Stewart and Lila spent much time in the outdoors camping, fishing and hunting.
In 1978 Stewart H. and Lila built their home in Grover. They resided there together until April 24, 1991 when Lila passed away due to complications of open heart surgery.
This was a great loss for Stewart and their sons. Stewart continued working at the saw mill. Two years later Stewart would take his lunch break and go to the Afton Deli where he met Terri Haggar. They started to date and on November 5, 1993 they were married in the Grover church. Terri had three sons. They resided in Grover for the next 13 years. Stewart and Terri were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on April 22, 1995.
Fishing was his passion. He was an expert in all aspects. He tied flies and sold them to Lone Pine Sports to supplement his income. Stewart also enjoyed gardening. Home Teaching and animals. He always had several pets.
Stewart H. was known for his teasing and practical jokes. He loved to make people laugh. He is survived by his wife Terri. Mother-in-law his two brothers, two sisters,his eight stepsons and many nieces and nephews and several grand children.
Stewart is preceded in death, by his first wife Lila, parents Stewart and Adell Thurman and stepson Tony.
Stewart was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Stewart H. Thurman passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2007 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug 25, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Grover/Auburn LDS Chapel
There will be a viewing at Schwab Mortuary in Afton on Friday, Aug 24 from 7-8:30 p.m. and no Saturday Aug 25 from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. at the chapel.
