Rose M. Aasen, age 76 of Sunburg died Sunday June 17, 2012 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 21, 2012 at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church in rural New London. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the services at the church.


Rosella Mae Aasen was born on March 27, 1936 in Kerkhoven, the daughter of Murphy and Elsie (Rood) Thorson. She was baptized on May 20, 1936 and confirmed on May 20, 1951, both at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. She grew up in Kerkhoven where she attended and graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1955. She continued her education at the Minneapolis College of Business. After her schooling she continued to work in the cities as bookkeeper. On December 14, 1968, Rose was united in marriage to Wendell H. Aasen at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. They made their home in rural Sunburg where they farmed and Rose worked part-time for the National Farmers Organization as a secretary. Rose and Wendell were able to share in 36 years of marriage before his death on December 5, 2005.


Rose was an active member of East Norway Lake Lutheran Church where she served in WELCA, sang in the choir and served as treasurer. She loved spending time with her family and faithfully followed all their activities. She enjoyed music and played piano, accordion and the pedal organ.


Rose died on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 76. She is survived by children, David (Nancy) Aasen, Teresa (Don) Koshenina, Allan Aasen and Anna (Troy) Bishop; grandchildren, Grace, Abigail, John, Madison, Jordan, Isabelle and Ryan; brother, Roy (Carol) Thorson and sister-in-law, Grace Thorson. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Myrt Christenson, Jeannette Aasen and Thelma (and Mark) Johnson and brother-in-law, John (and Gladys) Aasen. She was very proud of all her grandchildren and loved her family very much.


Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; parents and four brothers and a brother-in-law.
