Winnie Bean
COTTAGE GROVE — A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove for Winnie Thorp Bean of Cottage Grove, who died Oct. 22 of age-related causes. She was 82.
She was born May 19, 1930, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Walter and Lula Howerton Thorp. She married Paul Bean Jr. on Aug. 29, 1946, in Roseburg. He died Feb. 21, 2010 [sic].
She completed a general education diploma at age 40. She was a homemaker and worked as a restaurant cook.
Survivors include three sons, Larry of Veneta, Richard of Las Vegas and Douglas of Havre, Mont.; a daughter, Mary Dernak of Springfield; a brother, Bill Thorp of Cottage Grove; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Susan B. Komen Foundation.

Winnie Thorp Bean, 82, of Cottage Grove died Oct. 22, 2012 from age related causes.
She was born May 19, 1930 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho to Walter C. and Lula (Howerton) Thorp.
On Aug. 29, 1946 in Roseburg, Oregon, she and Paul S. Bean, Jr. were married. He passed away Feb. 21, 2010.
Winnie completed her GED when she was 40 years old. She worked as a homemaker and restaurant cook. She formerly had lived in Drain, Oregon.
She enjoyed quilting, especially making baby quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would also strike up conversations with anyone she met, and was known as "Mom" to people all over Cottage Grove, Creswell, Drain and Yoncalla.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Dernak of Springfield, three sons, Larry W. Bean and wife, Marilyn, of Veneta, Richard Bean and wife, Betty, of Las Vegas, Nev. and Douglas Bean of Havre, Mont., a brother, Bill Thorp of Cottage Grove, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Oct. 29 at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan B. Komen Foundation.
