Lois Thornton Oswald
A Gracious Lady

Lois Thornton Oswald, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend completed her earthly mission of 89 years and passed away March 29, 2006.

Lois was born January 15, 1917, in Iona, Idaho, to Thomas Edmund and Alverda Longhurst Thornton. Lois married Nolan Carl Oswald in the Salt Lake Temple on June 9, 1936. She attended Idaho State University and Brigham Young University from which she graduated with a B.S. degree. She was a loyal lifetime BYU Cougars sports fan.

Lois dedicated her life in loving service to others. She was an accomplished homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a true friend. Lois kept a lovely home, a beautiful rose garden, and always had a charming smile.

She worked as a "Pink Lady" volunteer at the LDS Hospital for many years sharing her friendly manner with the sick and disabled. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lois served as a teacher of the youth and in positions of leadership in her ward and stake Relief Society organization.

Lois and her husband, Nolan, served for many years as Host and Hostess for the Church at the Tabernacle on Temple Square for the Tabernacle Choir broadcast on Sunday mornings. As members of the Church Hosting Committee, they also entertained visiting dignitaries, foreign ambassadors and royalty. Lois and Nolan served for a year and a half as official representatives of the Church in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dean Thornton, and her sister, Myrna Robinson.

She is survived by her husband Nolan, her sister, Betty (Ralph) Smith, Glendora, California; and by her two sons, Richard (Bonnie) Oswald, Fairview, Utah, and Kenneth (Marilyn) Oswald, Holladay, Utah. Lois is also survived by her six cherished grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, 2006, 12:00 Noon at the Valley View 8th Ward, 4395 S. Albright Dr. (2145 East), Holladay, Utah, Friends may call Sunday evening April 2nd from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, and from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services at the ward. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
