She died at Norwell Knoll Nursing Home after an illness of several months. Mrs. Backman worked as a receptionist for Scudder, Stevens and Clark, a brokerage firm in Boston. She was a member of the Plymouth Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Wife of the late Stirling C. Backman, she is survived by a son, Thomas K. Backman of Sudbury; daughter, Jill L. Keith of Hanover; a sister, Louise Ogar of Ellenton, Fla.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
