According to U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865, he enlisted as a Private on 12 August 1862 in Illinois. He served in Company I, Illinois 86th Infantry Regiment and mustered out on 3 February 1863. He survived the Civil War. According to the 1910 U.S. Census for West Roseburg, Douglas co., he was a widower, age 70, living in the Oregon Soldiers Home.
