MADISON - Margaret May Bentley, age 82, of Madison, died on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Oakwood Lutheran Home, Madison. She was born on April 13, 1921, in Madison, the daughter of Albert and Amelia Thielke.

After graduating from Madison West High School in 1938, Margaret attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Madison Business College.

She was a lifelong and active member of Luther Memorial Church where she participated in many activities and volunteered her time and talents for the church. Margaret was a dedicated volunteer at the Meriter Hospital Cardiac Center and Oakwood Lutheran Home.

She loved to quilt, garden, play cards and bingo. Margaret created a special quilt for her granddaughter, Melissa, made from tee shirts that celebrated events from her high school and college life. She enjoyed designing and sewing doll fashions for her granddaughters when they were children.

Margaret is survived by her loving children, Patti (Michael) Smith of Middleton, Sharon McGann of Middleton, Richard (Kay) Bentley of Madison, and Robert (Vicki and her daughter, Nicole Podgorski) Bentley of Mount Horeb; and two granddaughters, Megan (Chad) Margenau of Sun Prairie, and Melissa Smith of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by many loving four-footed friends, Casey, Yato, Max, Mutley, Anja, Duke, Moses, Taylor, Bosco, Copper, Mr. Bigglesworth and Elvis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Albert; her husband, Ralph; and a very special man, Tom McGann, her son-in-law.

Margaret's family would like to thank her many friends who have visited and supported her in recent months. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. The Rev. Shelley Bobb will officiate. After the service, private burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery.
