Mrs. Conaway Rites Today.
Funeral for Mrs. J. A. Conaway, 92 of 1772 N. 8th, will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in North side Church of Christ here. Tony Ash, Church of Christ minister, will officiate, assisted by Roy Phemister, minister from Clyde.
Mrs. Conaway died Sunday at 9:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Sutphen, at Clyde.
She will be buried beside the grave of her husband in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Elliot's Funeral Home.
Born Laura Louise Terry Oct. 19, 1872, Mrs. Conaway married J. A. Conaway at Luna, Tex. in 1894. They moved to Mitchell County near Westbrook in 1899. They farmed there until moving to Abilene in 1934.
She was known to friends and relatives as "Aunt Laura". Her father, Thomas S. Terry, fought in the Civil War. She and her husband reared eight orphan children in addition to their own. Mrs. Conaway was a member of the Northside Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. (Jewel) Sutphen of Clyde and Mrs. J. C. (Clora) Haller of 1510 Washington Blvd, six sons, Perry A. of 1234 Matador, Otho A. of Westbrook, Dennis of 2110 Merchant, J. E. of Levelland, O. R. of 1601 Victoria and Ottie of 1709 Briarwood, a sister, Mrs. Ethel Johnson of Dallas, 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Four sons and a daughter preceded her in death.
Grandsons will be active pallbearers. They are Jimmy Haller, Bobby Conaway, Dennis Conaway Jr., Jack Conaway, Rodolph Conaway, Edward Blakeney and Gene Sutphen.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Haller, 1510 Washington Blvd.
