It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, MANUELITA "LITA" T. ALVAREZ, 94 on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice. She was born in Las Cruces August 17, 1913 to Alejo and Alvina Valencia Telles. Mrs. Alvarez was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son, Demetrio Alvarez, Jr. and wife, Helen of Las Cruces; four daughters, Juliet Alvarez-Laury and husband, Richard of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Margaret Alvarez-Robles and husband, Gregorio of Arvada, Colorado, Katherine Flanigan and husband Dennis of Lake Dallas, Texas and Terry Jabczynski and husband, Tom of Aurora, Colorado, as well as two sisters, Nina Telles Banegas, and Josie Trujillo and husband, Lamberto "Bindy" all of Las Cruces. Other survivors include fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Demetrio Alvarez in July 1976.
Calling hours will begin at 6 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2007 in the Prayer Chapel of Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7:30 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday, February 7, 2008 in St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina with the Reverend Ricardo Bauza, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
